Free Foods

Slimming world prides itself on the basis of food optimising which includes an element called ‘free foods’ which are essentially foods you can eat unlimited quantities of within reason. Such foods are as follows –

  • Fish
  • Meat
  • Vegetables
  • Fruit
  • Potato
  • Pasta

There are a couple of rules when it comes to such foods and that is that ALL visible fat is removed, it is baked, fresh or grilled and ONLY fried if done in frylight and absolutely not deep fried unless a syn value is added. Meat is best bought fresh or frozen as pre-packed meats in sauces and oils often have a syn value attached.

As for fruit and vegetables, they must be fresh or frozen with no pre-added fats, oils, sauces or butters. Some canned fruit is okay but it must be in natural juices and not in syrup.

Most fish is free including prawns, cod, salmon, tuna…. however canned fish must be in spring water or thoroughly drained.

Some variations of pasta packets are free although be sure to double check as some are synned and of course, homemade pasta made with natural herbs and spices is generally completely free.

Potato is also free and I recommend if your a lover of chips then you invest in some good potatoes such as maris pipers and begin to make your own from scratch, this means you can still enjoy chips without the hefty syn value and added, oily calories. Jacket potatoes are a quick and easy way to enjoy a filling, tasty lunch.

As you can see, you can still enjoy really tasty, filling foods whilst losing weight or mainting a healthy lifestyle!

I thoroughly believe in slimming world and it’s many benefits, I would simply not endorse it otherwise but I do and will as I know just how many lives could potentially be changed from following this lifestyle.

The reason I set up this blog is simply for information, there is so much info regarding slimming world and it’s values, meals and plans but to me, they seem jumbled and all over the place, I’m yet to come across a blog or website that has all of that information in one place thus feeling there is a gap that maybe I could fill.
